I am a
member of the International Society of Appraisers, the world's
largest organization of trained, personal property appraisers. For
many years my wife and I were the owners of an antiques business in
a local antiques mall.
I graduated from Greenwood (MS) High
School. I received the Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma
Baptist University and the Master of Church Music degree from
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I served as full
time Minister Music in Baptist churches until I retired in 1991 from
Ruhama Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. I have been serving
as part time Minister of Music at First United Methodist Church in
Bessemer, AL, since 1992.
I passed the required courses
to become a member of the International Society of Appraisers in
1992 and started Birmingham Appraisal Services.
I completed the required
program and testing and was granted the highest designation of CAPP
in 1999. This is the Certified Appraiser of Personal
Property designation in the area of Antiques and Residential
Contents. Although I am qualified to appraise all personal
property, my expertise is in furniture, glass, ceramics, silver, and
decorative arts.
I have been quite active in the
International Society of Appraisers speaking at several of the
conferences and serving as an officer. For three years I was Chair
of the Electronics Information Services and for two years Chair of
the Antiques and Residential Division. I have received a number of
awards from the organization including the Service Award (2002 and
2004) and the Distinguished Service Award (2001 and 2004). I
completed the requirement and testing for re-qualification as a CAPP
in 2005.
For 12 years I taught antiques
for the Continuing Education Department of the University of Alabama
at Birmingham. After the closing of the department I now teach
the course at Bessemer Technical College, Bessemer, AL, as well as
at other schools and organizations. I speak about antiques
often for social and civic organizations.
I founded
Birmingham Appraisal Services in 1992 to provide legal appraisals of
personal property in the specialized area of antiques and
residential contents. I do not appraise real
estate.
Through our
commitment, knowledge, experience and training, Birmingham Appraisal
Services has established a business relationship with our clients
that will last a lifetime!
